Calgary Expo 2009 Roughs

And here's some of my doodles for working out the concept for the Calgary Expo artbook piece in my previous post.

I generally work smaller, just to figure things out. I find that you can capture a lot of energy by working smaller. Sometimes I'll just blow up my roughs, other times I'll just draw it bigger from looking at my thumbnails.

I always have a skecthbook with me, and sometimes I'll go to a coffee shop just to work out ideas. It's nice to get out of the house and into a different working environment.

Although sometimes I have to admit that I don't like getting bothered by people at the coffee shops (I'm there to work!)...and he opening line is usually "are you an art student?"

Is it really hard to believe that you can be a professional artist?

Also...are my headphones not an indication that I don't want to be disturbed?

Ah well, guess it comes with the territory!
